Mike Shirreff and David Eleff were recently successful on a summary trial application for a national union client: Speckling v. CEP, 2023 BCSC 1446.
The claim against the unions arose from events in the late 1990s at a pulp and paper mill in Powell River, British Columbia. For the past 20+ years, the plaintiff and his brother have pursued various claims against both the local and national union before the Labour Relations Board and in court. Earlier this summer, the court dismissed Walter Speckling’s claims in their entirety following a three-day summary trial application.
The decision has since been appealed by the plaintiff.
