Robyn has practiced civil litigation in British Columbia for eight years and has experience in a number of different areas of practice including corporate/commercial litigation, employment disputes, professional liability matters and securities litigation. Robyn has appeared before all levels of British Columbia courts.

Prior to joining Sugden, McFee & Roos in 2008, Robyn articled and practiced as a litigation associate for six years with a prominent national firm. In 2005, Robyn gained invaluable trial experience acting as ad hoc Crown Counsel while on secondment to the Ministry of the Attorney General’s Prosecution Service.

Aboriginal Law

  • Experience in matters regarding aboriginal title claims, trespass to Indian Reserves, taxation or Indian Reserves and commercial disputes involving First Nation lands
  • Junior counsel representing a NWT First Nation involved in Federal Court litigation regarding taxation on lands set aside and the Crown's fiduciary and constitutional duties to First Nations, including the duty to negotiate in good faith

Administrative Law

  • Involved in matters before the Human Rights Commission and as junior counsel on applications seeking or defending judicial review of administrative boards and tribunals and government officials, including the BC Liquor Control and Licensing Branch, City of Vancouver and the BC Environmental Appeal Board
  • Junior counsel representing a major forestry company in defending a First Nation's judicial review application of The BC Ministry of Forests' decision to remove private lands from a tree farm license which involved groundbreaking issues of aboriginal rights and the Crown's duties of consultation
  • Imperial Oil Ltd. v. McAfee 2005 B.C. J. No. 576: junior counsel in a successful application on behalf of a major oil company in seeking judicial review of the City of Vancouver's decision to refuse to grant a development permit as a result of alleged contamination of the property; successful at both BC Supreme Court and Court of Appeal level; involved in successfully responding to Defendant's application seeking leave to appeal to Supreme Court of Canada

  • Provided advice to a Canadian division of a leading international construction equipment dealer with respect to debt recovery and security realization, including lien and secured transaction issues

  • Junior counsel for a major utility company in a multimillion dollar, multi party lawsuit involving the design and construction of a power transmission system in the Yukon Territory

  • Experience as both junior and lead counsel in providing advice regarding various employment issues and in bringing and defending wrongful dismissal claims
  • Junior counsel for a major utility company defending a wrongful dismissal claim by former CFO claiming over a million dollars in damages
  • Junior counsel in defending the Workers' Compensation Board and several of its management employees in a defamation and wrongful dismissal action regarding allegations of harassment in the workplace
  • Corporate Images Holdings Partnership v. Satchell 2008 B.C.J. No. 752: junior counsel in successfully defending a short leave application for an injunction application to prevent a former employer from joining a competitor due to an alleged breach of a non-compete agreement

Environmental Law

  • Junior counsel in a variety of environmental regulatory matters including contaminated site matters involving theEnvironmental Management Act, civil cost recovery claims, as well as defending clients in administrative proceedings and challenging the decisions of regulatory officials before administrative tribunals via judicial review

Human Rights

  • Experience in human rights complaints
  • Junior counsel for a leading national accounting firm defending a complaint before the BC Human Rights Commission that the complainant had not been made a partner due to gender discrimination

Personal Injury

  • Lead counsel (for both plaintiffs and defendants) on small to mid-size personal injury disputes including matters involving occupiers liability and product liability
  • Ible v. Chirag 2006 B.C.J. No. 2859: lead counsel in BC Supreme Court on trial to assess damages of individual injured in a serious motor vehicle accident

Real Property

  • Provided advice with respect to disputes involving the sale of land, commercial lease disputes and property tax appeals
  • Delta (Corp.) v. Boundary Bay Airport Corp. 2003 B.C.J. No. 2908: junior counsel in a successful application on behalf of the Corporation of Delta for a declaration of termination of a lease
