A founding partner of Sugden, McFee & Roos, Robin McFee is rated as one of the leading British Columbia practitioners in the areas of corporate and commercial litigation and labour and employment law by both Lexpert and Best Lawyers in Canada.

Robin’s practice focuses on large, complex litigation matters arising in a wide variety of areas. His practice includes general commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, professional liability claims involving engineers, architects, lawyers and accountants, securities litigation, major personal injury/wrongful death claims, real estate litigation including specific performance actions, wrongful dismissal actions involving senior management personnel, and insurance coverage litigation. He has been counsel on numerous trials and appeals, including appeals to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Deeply involved in professional education throughout his career, Robin McFee is the Session Leader and a lecturer on the “Art of Cross-Examination” for the University of British Columbia Law School Advocacy Course. He is also a lecturer at the Inns of Court Programme for young lawyers and a guest lecturer for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia.

  • Represented majority shareholders in litigation involving one of the largest and most successful family real estate companies in Canada
  • Counsel at trial, in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada in proceedings that reaffirmed the non-deductibility of collateral benefits in tort actions
  • Represented the successful plaintiffs in a specific performance/constructive trust action involving the largest remaining developable piece of property in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia
  • Represented individuals challenging the constitutional validity of the investigative/compelled testimony provisions of the British Columbia Securities Act
  • Counsel for a local religious denominational school in a matter that proceeded through the British Columbia and Ontario courts relating to the liquidation of a religious order
  • Counsel for a professional liability insurer in litigation against other insurers to determine priority of insurance coverage for underlying claims arising from a major infrastructure project
  • Counsel for strata corporations in proceedings seeking damages for the ingress of water into the building envelope of multi-unit residential buildings
