Richard Fernyhough was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1994. He practiced criminal law for 11 years with the noted criminal firm of Smart & Williams in Vancouver before joining the Legal Services Branch of the Attorney General of British Columbia in 2005. After three years with the Attorney General, he joined Sugden, McFee & Roos as a senior associate in 2008.
Richard’s practice includes commercial litigation and criminal and administrative law matters, the latter focusing on professional misconduct and regulatory offences.
Richard has appeared in all levels of courts in British Columbia and before a number of regulatory tribunals and boards. He has both prosecuted and defended numerous criminal matters in the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia. He has acted in several high profile criminal matters, including what has come to be known as the Air India bombing case. He has acted as counsel to the Financial Institutions Commission of British Columbia, the Superintendent of Real Estate, the Registrar of Mortgage Brokers and on numerous appeals to the Financial Services Tribunal. Richard has also acted for lawyers in disciplinary matters before the Law Society of British Columbia.
