Recognized as a leading practitioner in corporate and commercial litigation by Best Lawyers in Canada, Patrick Lewis has been practicing litigation for over 25 years and has been a partner in Sugden, McFee & Roos LLP since 1994. Pat has acted in civil disputes throughout his career and has a broad-ranging practice in corporate litigation, mining and securities matters, defamation claims, estate-related litigation and other commercial disputes. Pat has also represented hundreds of persons injured in motor vehicle accidents and by other means and maintains a very active practice in that area.
Pat has frequently appeared before the British Columbia Superior Courts, has on a number of occasions appeared through written submissions in the Supreme Court of Canada and has been counsel before a host of administrative tribunals, including many commercial arbitrations. Where appropriate, Pat endeavours to resolve his clients’ disputes privately, often through mediation.
Effective August 30, 2010, Pat was appointed as a member of the Financial Services Tribunal, and in that capacity hears and adjudicates appeals from various administrative bodies.
Pat has made many contributions to his community, including over twenty years of coaching in youth sports and being one of the first counsel to participate in a pro bono Legal Services clinic in Vancouver. He has also contributed to the legal profession by speaking at Continuing Legal Education courses, acting as a judge in student moot court programs and frequently representing members of the profession before the Law Society.
